本校位於臺東縣南王山南側，面臨臺東平原，一旁有卑南文化公園。這是一間環境優美、風景宜人、視野開闊的學校，有利於學生學習知識和技能，並且培養品格。
本校創立於1962年，當時稱為臺東縣立卑南初級中學。1968年全國實施九年國民義務教育，本校改名為臺東縣立卑南國民中學，並組織棒球隊。1971年本校棒球隊參加第一屆全國國中棒球聯賽，獲得冠軍，此後球隊受臺灣日報邀約，赴全島進行多次比賽，締造良好成績，球隊因而聲名遠播。當時的優異表現也同時鼓舞了臺東縣其他國中的棒球運動。
1990年，本校參加全國民族舞蹈競賽，獲得南區總冠軍，並得到於國慶日在總統府廣場演出的機會，這是第一次臺東縣有國中得到此榮譽。1991年本校受邀至國家音樂廳為國際合唱節演出，同一年也受台視邀請，由原住民同學進行原住民演唱。這是本校在藝文上的傑出成就。
1990年代以後，學校陸續進行各項建設，包含游泳池、圖書室、廚房、專科大樓等，同時許多教室也獲得了修繕與設備更新。在環境視覺上，校園也逐漸重視綠化，種植了許多熱帶樹木。操場上廣大且翠綠的草地，與藍天、白雲及紅土跑道構成美麗的色彩。
2000年以後，學校的各個隊伍都陸續獲得優秀成績。棒球隊、健力隊、柔道隊、足球隊、田徑隊等體育團隊，在參加全國性比賽時都能名列前茅。2016年，我們藉由興建棒球隊宿舍及柔道舉重館，激勵隊員繼續追求卓越表現。除了擁有優秀的體育隊伍之外，如今我們仍有發展良好的原住民舞蹈隊及合唱團，熱舞社則是我們新的榮耀。這3個隊伍在2016年的縣立比賽中都成為受矚目的焦點，原住民舞蹈隊及熱舞社甚至在縣立比賽中得到了進入全國賽的機會。這些團隊的辛勤練習與優秀表現，不僅為校園帶來活潑的氣息，也成為本校多元學習的最佳典範。
在學科與技藝科成就方面，本校於2016年同時成為臺東縣國中英語村及技藝教育區域中心體驗學校。我們誠摯歡迎校際交流，我們相信這個嘗試可以幫助本校學生在學習英語與技藝上前進一大步。

教學設備
各班皆有單槍與電腦，並有縣內最標準的家政教室，教師並可使用3E化教室進行電子白板互動教學。學生多元學習美術、工藝、烹飪等知識。

有特教班1班及資源班3班，學校與阿尼社弗與德蕾之家互助並協助關懷學生。

Pei Nan Junior High School is situated just south of Mount Nan Wang in Taitung county. It faces the Taitung plain and is near the Pei Nan Cultural Park. Pei Nan Junior High School is a beautiful, charming school set in a picturesque natural environment. It is a leisurely place for students to acquire knowledge, nurture their technical abilities and build character.
Our school was founded in 1962 and named Pei Nan Middle School. In 1968, a 9-year Compulsory Education system was put into effect. Pei Nan Middle School was renamed as Taitung County Pei Nan Junior High School and organized a school baseball team. Our school baseball team joined the first National Junior High School Baseball League and won the championship. Then our team got invitations from Taiwan Daily to join many tournaments in Taiwan. We had big success and our school baseball team became well-known. Our great achievements inspired other junior high schools to be engaged in baseball competitions.
1990, we joined a national competition for folk dance and became the champion of south areas.We also had a chance to perform our dance on the plaza in front of the presidential palace on October 10th. It’s the first time that there has been a junior high school which won the honor in Taitung. In 1991, we were invited to perform in National Concert Hall for International Choral Festival. The same year, Taiwan Television Enterprise also invited us to perform aboriginal songs on TV. These are all great achievements of our school in Arts and Humanities.
Since 1990, facilities in our school constructed, include a swimming pool, a library, a kitchen, a professional training building, etc. Moreover, many classrooms were repaired and renewed for equipment.
Our school campus is very beautiful with lots of green plants and tropical trees. We have a red sand running track and it paints a beautiful picture with the blue sky, white
clouds, and mountains in the background.
Since 2000, the students of physical education teams have displayed many amazing talents, and won many prizes in national competitions. The athletic teams of Pei Nan Junior High School which include the baseball team, weight-lifting team, the judo team, the soccer team, a track and field team, and so on. In 2016, the principal decided to build a dormitory for baseball boys to live in, and a new, well-equipped gym for our sports students to keep practicing. Thus, we expect outstanding performances of the students to continue! Likewise we have brilliant sport teams, aboriginal dancers, choir, and hip hoop dancers are our school speciality. These three teams within county competition received good reputations, and aboriginal dancers and hip hop dancers went to the final round of the Taiwan competition. These hard workers had outstanding performances, and influenced others with their energy, setting good examples.
Pei Nan Junior High School is the key school of the 2016 Taitung English Village and also the experimental school of the regional center for technological and vocational education. It welcomes intercollegiate exchange and believes that exchange between schools can help students to advance their studies and their technological and vocational education.
